How is Opter different to comparison sites?
We give better answers that save you more.
Health insurers pay other sites hundreds of millions of dollars to sell their policies. This means their customers are the insurers, not you. That's why they won't tell you about most policies - just the ones they're paid to sell you. Pretty gross, we reckon.
We exist to make the best healthcare accessible to everyone, not to make a profit. That means we do things differently:
Every policy, every insurer. Did you know there's over 50,000 policies on offer across Australia? Plus another 50,000 open only to select individuals? We've got them all.
Commission free. We don't accept payments from insurers, so our advice is independent and solely in your interest.
The power of AI and human experts, together. Everyone's health needs are different, so getting great cover without paying for things you won't use likely means combining policies from different insurers. Finding the best combination of 50,000+ policies is near-impossible for a human, but takes our AI just seconds. It even factors in what each person in your family will need/use based on real data about others like them, combined item and policy limits, exclusions, and more. Plus, our human experts are always on hand for questions or further personalised help if you need it.
Deeply personalised guidance. Our answers are anything but generic. Leveraging the latest health data and research, our algorithms factor in each person's age and demographics, individual behaviours like smoking, diagnosed conditions and co-morbidities, and your own preferences like non-profit funds.
Here for the long-haul. Prices, health risks and available policies change constantly. We monitor these trends in near real-time and can even alert you if better options come along. So you can rest easy knowing you're always on the best plan, and stay a step ahead of insurers' premium increases.
Is it a hassle to switch funds?
Nope.
Not with Opter's one-click sign-up. We take care of all the administrative hassles, signing you up to your new funds, taking care of billing, and requesting transfer certificates on your behalf.
Do I need to re-serve waiting periods?
Probably not.
You don't need to re-serve waiting periods if you're moving to a similar or lower level of cover.
Is it complicated to be with multiple funds?
Not really. But you can disable it if you like.
The hardest part is searching and combining possible options, and we take care of that for you. The main difference is you'll have multiple health fund cards - either for different family members, or one hospital and one extras. So you'll need to remember to bring the right card to the dentist.
Our algorithms only suggest multiple funds if the savings offset this annoyance. Plus, your account page comes with a handy reference to help you remember. In practice most people find the savings well worth it, which is why thousands of Australians have already made the choice.
Still, if you prefer you can set the AI Builder to only show you options from single funds. Just select 'Insist on single provider' from the 'Multiple providers' dropdown.
